As communities across the country continue to prioritize sustainable transportation and resilient infrastructure, events like the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) Bike to Work Day highlight the growing importance of multimodal connectivity.
Bike to Work Day provides a meaningful opportunity to:
- Support regional climate and sustainability goals by reducing reliance on single-occupancy vehicles.
- Experience firsthand the impact of investments in active transportation infrastructure.
- Increase awareness of cyclist safety and the importance of shared roadways.
- Strengthen community connections through more accessible and human-centered modes of travel.
This year, I accepted the challenge, riding 15 miles tandem on an electric bicycle (e-bike) from home to work. The experience offered a unique perspective on how San Diego’s transportation network is evolving to support safer, more sustainable mobility options.
A highlight of our ride was the recently completed Rose Creek Bikeway, which connects key destinations for businesses, students, and residents. The corridor features protected lanes and dedicated bike paths designed to improve safety and accessibility—demonstrating the tangible benefits of infrastructure investment.
While progress is evident, challenges remain. Gaps in connectivity—where bike lanes abruptly end and riders are forced into high-speed traffic—underscore the importance of continued planning, design, and construction of cohesive transportation networks.
At 鶹TVվ, we understand that infrastructure plays a critical role in shaping safer, more connected communities. As demand for sustainable transportation continues to grow, ongoing investment in active transportation systems will be essential to improving mobility, supporting environmental goals, and enhancing quality of life.
